MA Art History Students
Friday 10 September saw the MA Art History students visit East End galleries in what has become a regular fixture on the program. The tour was organised by Deborah Schultz, who teaches Theories and Methods on the MA course.
The first stop was White Cube, one of the best-known galleries in London, where a new installation by Kris Martin was displayed, which consisted of thousands of tiny copper bronze confetti-like discs which were scattered on the floor.
The second stop took the students to Vyner Street, off Cambridge Heath Road, where some of the newest spaces are opening which display works in all shapes and sizes from videos to paintings to installations which challenge spatial perception. The small road is home to a surprisingly large number of galleries and while some are low-key and informal, others have been redeveloped into large impressive warehouse-type settings.
It was noted by Dr Schultz, that the street over the last number of years has been gradually changing. The visit has left the MA students inspired and stimulated to see more galleries and exhibitions in the coming months.
