Julia Jeannet’s Chapter Finally Published

15/06/2010

'Developing Academic Literacy' edited by George Blue, has just been published by Peter Lang AG. The book contains a chapter entitled, 'The Benefits of the Staged Approach to the Term Paper' written by Julia Jeannet, Co-ordinator of the Foundations Program, and Dr. Clare Wright, former adjunct faculty member at Richmond and now a lecturer in Linguistics at Newcastle University.

Julia and Clare’s chapter arose out of a paper first presented at a BALEAP biennial conference. Following the conference, Julia and Clare’s paper was accepted for inclusion in a book on academic literacy. A number of years lapsed before the editor, George Blue, was ready to submit the final manuscript to the publisher’s. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, he died from complications arising from heart surgery.

Julia pays tribute to George Blue for his untiring efforts to ensure that Developing Academic Literacy was brought to fruition. She also thanks all her Foundations Program students who were the inspiration for the chapter that she and Clare co-authored. Their willingness to learn and their readiness to allow their mistakes to form the basis of new materials to help students in subsequent semesters, contributed in no small measure. Foundations Program students have not only developed their own academic literacy, they have also indirectly contributed to a book about it!
