Julia Hathaway represents Richmond at conference

On 16th September 2008, Julia Hathaway, Assistant Professor in the Academic Literacies and Languages Program (ALLP), represented Richmond at the 'Languages of the Wider World: Valuing Diversity' conference which was hosted by the SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) and UCL (University College London) Centre for Excellence in the Teaching and Learning of Languages of the Wider World.

The conference brought together academics from all over the world to discuss aspects of this topic: the nature and problematics of multilingualism, majority and minority bilingualism, pedagogies for intercultural communication and plurilingualism, multilingualism in higher education, English as an international academic language, language use and identity, linguistic hegemony and linguistic human rights. These issues are particularly relevant to Richmond where students come from a wide variety of linguistic backgrounds. Discussions of and expertise in these issues underpin the work of the ALLP. They also directly relate to Julia Hathaway's recent conference presentations and publications.
