INR 342 Diplomatic Methods and Conflict Resolution simulates a Middle East Peace Conference
02/12/2005

The Fall 2005 class of the course INR 342 Diplomatic Methods and Conflict Resolution (tutor Dr. Musu) has conducted a two weeks simulation of a Middle East Peace Conference.
Participants were divided in five delegations (Israel, Palestinian Authority, United States, European Union and United Nations) and negotiated over crucial issues central to the peace process: Jerusalem, borders and security, settlements and refugees.
The learning objective of the simulation were to synthesize all of the skills and knowledge competencies developed earlier in the course; to gain a greater understanding of the complexity of the security situation in the Middle East; to learn more about the negotiation, critical problem-solving, and communication skills needed for effective diplomacy and policy-making and to increase empathy for the challenges faced by real-life diplomats and policy practitioners.
Congratulations go to all the participants, who have dedicated with enthusiasm time and energy to the exercise, making this a successful learning experience.
