Recent Guest Lectures:
‘Countering insurgencies in the 21st century’
On Tuesday, 21 April 2009 we were pleased to welcome General Sir Michael Rose to the Richmond Hill campus. A former UN commander, General Rose has written and lectured extensively around the world on strategic issues. The talk discussed the insurgency faced by the British during the American War of Independence and compared it to the insurgency faced by the US and UK as allies in Iraq.
The ex-Coldstreamer and SAS leader, was critical of Britain’s involvement in the Iraq war both as a stand alone campaign and as a distraction from the main effort in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan effort suffering a reversal because of the diversion of resources into Iraq.
Attending the lecture were Lord Watson of Richmond and members of the Richmond Society as well as staff and students of the University.
