Good Audience For Alumni Career Panel
Each year the Alumni Careers Panel event is the most popular event with students. At this event they hear from people who were once in the same position as they - about to graduate- just how to take the next step after Richmond, how to move from studying to work-the struggles, successes, skills and thinking involved.
This year’s panel, held on the evening of February 1 in Asa Briggs Hall in the Kensington campus, was a resounding success! Thirteen Richmond alumni came back to campus to discuss informally with students how to start a careers started and to talk about their own professional experiences in building their careers. Representing graduates from 1990 to 2004 from a variety of fields including Finance, Consultancy, Music, IT, Design, Graduate Study, Marketing and Retail, the panelists started out by describing their major at Richmond and the work that they have been doing since graduation.
Advice about writing a CV and interviewing intertwined with comments about how new professional opportunities can be found. The value of internships was mentioned and information about Richmond’s internship program was available. The importance of networking was highlighted and students were encouraged to begin that very evening by meeting personally each of the panelists at the drinks planned afterwards.
