European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
in the London
Professor Deckers went with his International Political Economy class to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the London financial district for a discussion of the transition in former Soviet Union countries and allies from a planned economy to a capitalist economy, starting after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Students listened and discussed with one lecturer the general role of the EBRD, with another lecturer about the positive and negative effects of the transition and with a third academic about the latest Transition Report (2009) of the EBRD and that the neo-liberal, Washington Consensus based economic model is inapropriate.
Dr. Deckers will also go with his students to watch 'The Power of Yes', a play at the National Theatre about the recent financial crisis.
