Elizabeth Long presents at Bristol BALEAP PIM

Elizabeth Long, the Coordinator of the Academic Literacies Foundations Program, presented the new program course, “Academic Orientation” at the BALEAP conference (Professional Issues Meeting) on Saturday, 12 February 2011. The conference theme, “How Low Can We Go?” provided delegates with a forum to discuss issues facing lecturers in UK higher education who teach low English language proficiency students.

Elizabeth suggested that these international students did not just need the more traditional help with academic reading and writing skills but perhaps, more crucially, help to become familiar with their wider academic environment and help to become confident and adept at operating within it.
