Dr. Eunice Goes Presents Paper at Annual Conference of the Political Studies Association
05/05/2011
Dr. Eunice Goes presented a paper at the annual conference of the PSA on 19th April in the panel “Perspectives on British Politics and the General Elections of 2010”.
The paper, entitled “A lighter shade of Eurosceptic Blue? Analysing the Influence of the Liberal Democrats in the Conservative Party’s Approach to Europe”, examines the influence of the Liberal Democrats over the Conservative Party’s approach to the European Union since the coalition government was formed in May of 2010. The paper argues that the influence of the Liberal Democrats over the Conservative Party’s approach to Europe has been modest, however, the fact they are a coalition partner enables David Cameron to resist the pressure of the strident Eurosceptic wing of his party and to pursue a pragmatic approach to the EU.
