Dr Bryan McIntosh publishes in British Journal of Midwifery (BJM)
09/01/2012
Dr McIntosh has had a peer reviewed paper published in the British Journal of Midwifery (January 2012) Volume 20, Issue 1 on “The future of midwifery practice and roles”. This commentary engages with the dilemma faced by healthcare providers in light of fiscal uncertainty. The NHS needs to make real term cost savings whilst maintaining and, where possible, enhancing the quality of essential services. The performance of maternity services is seen as a touchstone of whether the NHS is delivering quality health services in general. The need to improve productivity and the quality of maternal health care outcomes, including risk and safety, and the need to understand how the maternity workforce can be organized to rise to these challenges economically is essential. This commentary argues that in the final analysis it must be placed in the ultimate custody of practitioners’ and patients’ requirements. The BJM impact factor is 1.520 (SocSci Citation Reports for 2011) it's five year Impact Factor is 1.468.
