Dr Berguno Horrifies His Readers

16/11/2010

Dr. George Berguno

Earlier this year George Berguno published The Sons of Ishmael, which was described by Ex Occidente Press as an ‘exceptional and exquisite debut collection of short stories.’

Now George has published a horror story with the Absent Willow Review, the fastest growing online magazine for horror, fantasy and science fiction. The story, entitled The Sad Eyes of the Lewis Chessmen, is based on one of the most extraordinary archaeological discoveries ever to take place in the British Isles. Seventy-eight chess pieces dating back to the twelfth century and carved out of walrus ivory were found in a sand dune on the Bay of Uig, Outer Hebrides, in 1831. They were bought by a local collector and eventually sold to the Museum of Scotland, as well as the British Museum in London.

But in George’s story, this simple archaeological find becomes the source of infinite geometrical horror.
