Distinguished Communications Faculty to Lead Professional Developments

Richmond's Communication & Fine Arts faculty, Dr Christine Zaher and Julia Hathaway represented Richmond on 30 June at the international Annual Seminar: Research, Scholarship and Practice in Academic Literacies, this year hosted by the University of Westminster. Seminar participants from 19 universities presented developments in this new field, and shared experiences and expertise. Seminar topics included ‘An investigation of genres of assessed writing in British Higher Education’ a report based on the British Academic Written English (BAWE) corpus. During the seminar, Dr. Zaher was requested by a UK university to lead a faculty professional development session focusing upon Richmond’s innovative program for developing the academic literacies of its undergraduate students. This will take place in September 2006, and will be co-presented by Frank Trew and Valerie Boyle, Richmond’s information literacy tutors.
