COM401 Senior Project Presentations
On the 8th December 2006 twenty five senior students in Communications made their presentations for the capstone course, Senior Project
(COM401).
At the beginning of term the students had been given three different communications briefs from three very different organisations: Couture Digital, a company who design and install custom entertainment and Smart home systems, invited the students to redesign its consumer brochure for B2B marketing; the University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art (UECLAA), the largest such collection in Europe, invited the students to redesign its international newsletter; and Touch, a popular British urban culture magazine, invited the students to conduct market research into potential new audiences.
In groups of three or four the students chose one of the three briefs to work on over the Fall semester, conducting background research, fieldwork, and utilizing all their varied communication skills to respond to the briefs and to present the results. Students working on the Touch project conducted extensive research in schools around London as well as in the streets of London suburb, Brixton. Those working on the UECLAA project enjoyed a fieldtrip to see the collection's future home in Colchester's new arts centre, Firstsite, and were privileged to see how the collection is currently stored and displayed at the University of Essex campus.
At the end of the semester the three clients were invited back for the students to present their finished projects. The students' hard work and creativity were evident in the high quality of the results. The clients were extremely impressed by their professionalism and creative abilities. The students are to be congratulated on a successful term of original and exciting work.
