Christine Zaher and Julia Hathaway have a paper accepted for the BALEAP Biennial Conference, April 2011

Dr Christine Zaher and Julia Hathaway, have had their paper, “Locating academic writing and research in the university” accepted for the BALEAP conference. The conference theme is: “The Internationalisation of HE: Challenges to the EAP classroom.” Their paper showcases how Richmond’s Academic Literacies Program courses successfully help international students from diverse linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds navigate their way through an Anglophone tertiary institute which has academic expectations and conventions that can be alien to them. UK HE institutes tend not to offer such courses, working on an exclusion model rather than the inclusion approach that Richmond offers. The paper argues that the Richmond model is more beneficial for students.
