Chinese Interns Honored at HSBC Scholar Reception

The second group of interns from the UK/China Internship Programme and guests enjoyed the view from the 41st floor of the HSBC Headquarters on Tuesday, 8 May 2007 during a reception hosted by HSBC to honor the interns. HSBC is a sponsor of the UK/China Internship Program accommodating just under half of the placements and offering scholarship funds to all participants.

The evening was kicked off with a traditional Chinese dance, flute playing and singing by Cheng Wing Yan, Cheng Zengyan, Fang Ming, Luo Ting, Ng Yee Ling, Wang Jingshi, Wang Xiobing, Wu Bin, Wu Yaqiong, Yu Yue, Zhang Chi, and Zhang Nan.

After the impressive performance that left everyone in awe, opening comments were made by David Hodgkinson, Group Chief Operating Officer of HSBC followed by remarks from Zhang Zongming of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Peter Drummond of Department for Education and Skills, Dr Hackforth-Jones of Richmond, the American International University in London, Sir Cyril Taylor of American Institute for Foreign Study and Dame Mary Richardson of HSBC Global Education Trust -- quite a list of distinguished speakers.

The evening ended with drinks, canapés and tales of young interns from China surviving their first few months in London.
