Brussels Trip to the EU and NATO

EU Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium

The History, IR, Politics Society and the Economics Society will be hosting a trip to Brussels. Students will visit the European Parliament (EP) and the headquarters of NATO.

This trip will take place Tuesday March 27th to Friday March 30th.

Richmond students will be met by Member of the European Parliament (MEP), Gerard Batton. Mr. Batton is a member of United Kingdom Independent Party (UKIP). (Batton's party affiliation is not at all endorsed by Richmond University or the Societies.)

We will gain a unique insight into the operations of the EP, from a member who is fundamentally opposed to the EU.

Mr. Batton has arranged for Robert Evans, who is a pro-EU Labour MEP for London, to put forward the pro-EU case and debate the issues with him followed by a Q&A session. It should be a lively time! Then students will go to the Public Gallery to view a Parliamentary debate.

Richmond students then plan to visit the headquarters of NATO. Students will be accompanied by Robert Weaver of NATO who will present a lecture followed by a Q&A session and tour of the building.

Richmond faculty members Dr. Dom Alessio and Dr. James Boys will lead the trip to Brussels and serve as academic experts.

Richmond students would like to thank Sarah Wiswell for helping to organise the NATO tour; the Student Affairs staff who supported and helped in the organisational process and allowed for extra funds; and the European Union for subsidising part of the cost.
