ALUMNAE ART EXHIBITION - A FESTIVE REUNION FOR LONDON ALUMNI

An exhibition of photographic works of two alumnae from the 1990s combined with an alumni festive season reunion on the first day of December, 2005. The London Alumni Leadership Committee worked with the students enrolled in the art class “Going Public” taught by Professor John Dickerson, as part of their academic work, organized and executed an art exhibition. Called “Worlds Within” the class created all the publicity and a catalog for the show; they planned the reception and refreshments, served the food. Many faculty, students and alumni attended and everyone had an especially happy time.

Two alumnae who were at Richmond in the 1990s and who knew each other as students had agreed to have their recent work exhibited at Richmond in early December to coincide with the end of term. Alumna Ursula Trebitz Kuhlmann, a Studio Art major in the Class of 1990, is a professional photographer and a full time mother in Hofheim, Germany. Her Richmond friend Yuko Mikawa, also majored in Studio Art and graduated in 1991. Yuko is a photographer in Yokohama, Japan in between working full time.

Each work was shipped from Germany or Japan and framed by the class before they designed the hang in the gallery area in Asa Briggs Hall in Kensington.

The works of each artist were distinctive and reflected much of the environments in which each of them live and work.

Yuko had used crows as imagery in her photos as there are so many of them around the city.

And Ursula had used a skeleton on loan to her to make photographs outside in local natural scenes.
