ADAM Students Travel to Madrid

"¡Tuvimos un bien viaje! ADAM went to Madrid!

For three days, or a very full 72 hours, students and professors had a full run of the city of Madrid at their fingertips.

Students spent hours exploring museums, wandering through street markets, and being immersed in Spanish culture. We lived, ate, breathed, and siesta-ed Madrid style.

For many, it was their first time in Spain, and for those who had been before, it was a chance to focus on the extensive arts community in Madrid.

Everyone enjoyed the chance to indulge in Spain’s artistic offerings, and our highlights of the trip included seeing Picasso’s Guernica and the collections at the Prado Museum, particularly Velazquez’s Las Meninas.

It was also a great chance for us all to practice our language skills! By the end of the trip, everyone had mastered at least a few phrases in Spanish.

While in Madrid we had the pleasure of sampling the best bit of Spanish culture--- the food! We devoured plates full of chorizo, calamari, patas bravas, paella, tortilla, tortilla, and more tortilla! We also made sure to indulge in local drinks – Rjola, Sangria, and, of course, muchas cervezas!

And as for the souvenirs, the shopping provided students with scarves, jewelry, flags, and gifts for friends and family, but the best things we took back to London were our experiences.

“A greater knowledge in general,” was the best souvenir for sophomore Tristan Roland, while senior Emily Pulham was happy to bring back a “renewed enthusiasm for art and a greater awareness for contemporary art in other countries.” Senior Rosalie Craft was also quick to add that the exhibitions viewed would definitely have a knock on effect when dealing with her own work.

The friendships formed on the trip were also great souvenirs, and one of the best parts of the experience. Traveling to a foreign country together made fast friends out of all of us, and by the end of the trip students who had not previously met were the best of amigos.

At the end of our trip we arrived back in London happy, tired, and bursting full of stories and tortillas! Now the only thing to ask is…. Where will we be going next?"
