The Opera Club attend Mozart’s Don Giovanni

Ten students attended the English National Opera’s staging of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, one of three operas he wrote in Italian and which has been described as “the opera of operas”. This production, directed by Rufus Norris, updates the action to a more contemporary setting and the focus is on retaining a balance between the tragic and the comedic.

The Opera Club visits The Coliseum once a semester and we always try to choose an opera that is accessible, especially to first timers. The emphasis is on enjoyment in order to give students the pleasure of experiencing one of the world’s great Opera houses. Daniela El Merhi, a Richmond Psychology Major, and one of the students who attended the performance, encapsulates this when she stated that she “had a great night and enjoyed the opera”.

Student Affairs sponsor and organized the evening in conjunction with Professor Dennis de Caires.
