A bit of Pacific culture in Kensington

This week two Maori guest lecturers came into Dom Alessio’s HST 319 Cultures of Imperial Power to talk about the early migration of Polynesian peoples to New Zealand, the history of contact with European peoples, and finally the results of this process of colonisation. Jordan Young ended the session talking about the current Pacific and Polynesian cultural renaissance, and Jerome demonstrated this by playing a variety of traditional Polynesian instruments. Students interested in studying Pacific culture can take advantage of the Richmond internship position developed at the new Centre for New Zealand Studies at Birkbeck. See Dom or the Internship Department for more details.
