Managing Risk
Dan Wagner.’83 has written a book—Political Risk Insurance Guide—that was published by the International Risk Management Institute in 1999 and is listed on their website at: RISK
Dan has been working in political risk analysis for more than 15 years during which he has been underwriting & brokering political risk insurance (PRI), including 10 years of underwriting experience with three AAA-rated organizations.
His book explains that political risk insurance has become an essential tool for managing risk and for doing business in the developing world. As demand for this coverage is greater now than at any time in the past, it is important that insurance companies, brokers, risk managers, accountants, advisers, academics, and - not least of all - investors and traders to know how to buy and use political risk insurance.
This easy to read book carefully explains the risks businesses face when they operate outside their countries of origin, the coverage intricacies of investment insurance, and the coverage available under trade insurance policies. The public and private marketplaces for various types of political risk insurance are described and the underwriting process is explained. The book even includes a handy eleven page political risk exposure survey questionnaire. 115 pp. April 1999.
