'Globalization at the Crossroads: The End of the Experiment or Just the Beginning?' - An Inaugural lecture by Professor Stephen Haseler

31/03/2011

Richmond University hosted a keynote address by Professor Stephen Haseler last night. As a member of the University’s Board of Academic Governors, Professor Haseler was well placed to discuss the topic of Globalisation and its current status, having written widely on the subject and having served as Deputy Mayor of the Greater London Council.

The speech, which was well attended by a host of individuals drawn from the Richmond student body, faculty memebers, members of the Richmond Society, as well as experts from the Global Policy Institute that Professor Haseler heads, covered a wide range of topics and focused upon the geo-political as well as the political economic aspects to Globalisation, in an effort to draw some conclusions relating to the current Arab Spring.

Director of the Postgraduate Programme in International Relations, Associate Professor James D. Boys, was intrigued by what Professor Haseler had to say, as much of it touched upon the policies initiated by President Bill Clinton, the topic of Dr. Boys’ PhD.

Dr. Boys stated, "This was an interesting and wide ranging talk that sought to be inclusive and accessible, whist maintaining a very credible degree of analysis and application of theory to real world events. As such, it was a great success and I think it will cause those who attended to consider the current tide of reform movements in a new light.”
