MA Art History alumna Holly Gordon publishes paper on art and copyright law

Holly Gordon is an alumna of Richmond’s MA in Art History programme and recently published an article entitled ‘Appropriation Artists and Testifying Experts: Reconciling Postmodern Artistic Expression and Copyright Law’, in the AIPLA Quarterly Journal, the journal of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. The paper considers the recent case of Cariou v. Prince, in which the work of the artist Richard Prince, whose ‘re-use’ of photographs by Patrick Cariou, either infringed copyright or was fair use. Gordon argues for the importance of considering the evidence of art experts in such cases. Gordon passed the U.S. Bar Exam in 2015.
