Ms Julie Williams-Krishnan

Adjunct Assistant Professor
Julie Williams-Krishnan received her MA in Photographic Studies from University of Westminster in the UK and a BA in English from Juniata College in the USA.
Recently receiving a commendation in the juried Renaissance Photography Prize for an image from her series The Slow Burn and represented by Swiss Art Ventures, Julie is an emerging voice in the contemporary photographic art arena. Julie's academic studies in literature and photography provide the theoretical context for her personal work. She is particularly interested in pushing boundaries, showing new ways of viewing subjects and concepts, transgressive art, and the glorification of the every day.
In her recent work, Nevermore, she investigates the boundaries of photographic digital medium, pushing the “photograph” to questionable limits. Other projects such as Learning to Fly, Uncontained, and The Slow Burn combine personal and gender politics and performance, where one can see the artist engaged in attempting to fly or performing a burlesque dance in front of an abandoned town.
In addition to her artistic and academic pursuits, she is sole proprietor of her freelance photography business, JWK Photography (see www.jwkphotography.com for more information). Her clients include blowUP Media, The American University of Rome, Shillam & Smith Architects, Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel, Bengali Community Development Project, and the Safer London Foundation. She also enjoys portraiture and has photographed several weddings and special events.
Her professional background includes educational administration, marketing, public relations, and volunteer management. Julie previously worked in the Admissions Office at Richmond for several years, and is delighted to be part of Richmond in this new capacity.
