Francisco Laranjo
Francisco Laranjo is a graphic designer who studied in Porto, Portugal, where he graduated from a BA (Hons) Communication Design at ESAD - Escola Superior de Artes e Design.
Francisco worked and lived in East-Timor, researching the native cultural motifs of the country, in order to design the National Parliament's identity. As a freelance graphic designer, he worked on a wide range of projects, from which is possible to underline the graphic design of the film Magic Mirror by Manoel de Oliveira, premiering at the Venice Film Fesival, 2005.
After that, Francisco lived and worked in New York, USA, with designer Stefan Sagmeister in his studio (Sagmeister Inc.), until starting his post-graduate studies at the Royal College of Art, in London, UK, where he completed an MA in Communication Art & Design.
Francisco's research interests lie in graphic design criticism, namely to explore the possibilities of using graphic design's tools (typography, print, moving-image) to question the role/ power of the discipline within culture and society.
