Miss Eleanor Quince
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Eleanor Quince grew up in Bedford, a small town in South-East England. She attended the University of Leeds where she gained a first class degree in the History of Fine and Decorative Arts. During this degree course Eleanor developed a keen interest in the history of eighteenth-century furniture. She moved to the University of Southampton in 1999 where she embarked upon a PhD. Her thesis examined the constructed history of Gillows, a firm of furniture-makers working in London and Lancaster between 1760 and 1800.
During her study at the University of Southampton Eleanor taught courses about the architectural history of London. In Spring 2004, having been awarded her PhD, Eleanor joined the staff at Richmond as a temporary lecturer. She is currently organising a conference on Furniture and Theory, to take place at the University of Middlesex in November 2004. She has plans to publish her doctoral thesis as a series of articles to appear over the next two years.
