Dr Outi Remes

Dr Outi Remes (PhD, MA, BA) is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Art History and Visual Culture at Richmond, where she teaches on contemporary art. She is also the Director of the New Ashgate Gallery, Surrey. She leads the service, strategic direction and organisational objectives of the Gallery as an educational charity that promotes contemporary visual arts and crafts to as wide a public as possible through a programme of changing exhibitions, projects with artists and educational events. Outi also lectures at Birkbeck College, the University of London. Previously, Outi worked as the Head of Exhibitions at South Hill Park Arts Centre, Berkshire (2007-11). She was awarded a PhD from the University of Reading (2005). Outi is a curator of many interdisciplinary projects, including 'Rules and Regs' live art residences (2007-11) and the 'At Play' exhibition series (with Cally Trench, 2009-12), re-creating a sense of what it is like to be a child at play. She is a committee member of the Museums and Exhibitions Group, the Association of Art Historians, representing the interests of UK gallery employees and creating a cross-dialogue between academics and curators.
