Dr Lucas Villegas-Aristizábal

Dr Lucas Villegas-Aristizábal did his BA in history at the Richmond the American International University in London. Following his degree he did his MA and Ph.D. in mediaeval history at the University of Nottingham.
His PhD thesis focused on the participation of the Norman and Anglo-Norman nobility in the Iberian wars of reconquest due to the changing theological arguments for crusading. He has published papers in English and Spanish in a variety of international Journals. He has reading comprehension of Mediaeval Latin as well as many modern and medieval European languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Catalan and French. He has maintained an interest on the theological aura of the Crusades and the Reconquista in the minds of the participants and its transformation during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
He has five years teaching experience. In the School of History at the University of Nottingham, he co-taught first and second-year modules on the crusades and Mediaeval Europe. He has also given several guest lectures on the Crusades and the Normans at Richmond and at the University of Salamanca in Spain.
