Dr Ira Konstantinou
Associate Professor of Psychology

Dr Ira Konstantinou
As her last name would strongly indicate Ira Konstantinou was born in Athens, Greece. Being a Plato and Aristotle fan, she searched for answers about the relationship between body and soul by studying Psychology in The American College of Greece. During her undergraduate degree she worked as a laboratory tutor in the college and as a marketing executive in a leading Marketing Research company in Athens. As she was interested to discover more about the way in which the human brain works, she chose to embark on a PhD in Cognitive Psychology. She moved to London to attend a PhD program at City University in 2000. When her supervisor moved to University of Sussex, she followed. She was awarded a Teaching Demonstratorship from the University of Sussex. As part of her demonstratorship, she taught several courses in psychology while completing her PhD. Her doctorate thesis includes studies on the different kinds of awareness that might accompany memory for faces. She has presented part of these studies in major psychology conferences and submitted them for publication in important scientific journals.
Her research interests include subjective awareness during the recognition of faces and own-race bias in memory for faces. She joined Richmond University in Fall 2003 and is currently enjoying the multicultural environment and the welcoming atmosphere Richmond has to offer.
