Insurance
Richmond, The American International University in London provides its full-time students with a combined medical, loss or theft of personal possessions and tuition refund insurance. The cost of the insurance is a compulsory element of the fees charged by the University.
An insurance premium is mandatory for all students as stated on the Fees Sheet from the Accounts office. The premium has two components, medical and personal possessions.
Full-time degree students are covered by Endsleigh, a highly reputable company in the UK which specializes in student insurance.
Study abroad students who have come through The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) are covered by insurance as part of their fees.
Both policies, Endsleigh and AIFS, protect students for comprehensive medical coverage and for loss of personal possessions. It is important that you understand your insurance coverage so please read your insurance brochure carefully.
Students are not covered during the summer months unless you are a full-time registered student attending the Richmond University summer session and residing in the UK. At all other times during the academic year, including all breaks, coverage is in force, provided that you are in good financial standing with the University. Simply stated, if you are registered and attending classes, but owe the University money, you are not covered under the Endsleigh insurance policy.
In the residence halls, each student has a small safe in which to store valuable such as money, passports, cameras, and small lap top computers.
The University strongly recommends that you purchase additional ‘all risks’ insurance or check that your home insurance covers your belongings while you are at university. Low cost student insurance is available in London. Details will be provided on arrival. If you plan to bring video cameras or laptop computers you will need additional insurance cover.
