Welcome to the Real World Seminar Series
The following workshops were created with upper division students in mind, but all students at any stage of their degree are welcome to attend. Welcome to the Real World presentations focus on the practicalities of graduating from university and forging a path in a new career.
Transferring Skills to Experience, Wednesday 1st February, 5:30pm, ABH 205
When you sit down to write your CV, do you find yourself a bit stumped when it comes to experience? Perhaps you feel you’ve been a student for so long you haven’t gotten any real world experience at all! This seminar will help you think creatively about the skills you’ve acquired at university and will pinpoint areas that you may need to develop. This is an important seminar to attend before you begin writing your CV.
CV Writing, Tuesday, 20th March, 5:30pm, ABH 205
This highly practical seminar will show you techniques for presenting yourself well on paper. CVs are the gateway to many job opportunities. A good one will open doors. A poor one will shut you out of opportunities that could lead to career enhancement. This workshop is a must for anyone looking to enter the job market.
Psychometric Testing, Thursday, 12th April, 5:30pm, ABH 216
In addition to a great CV, you may also be required to take some assessment tests before entering the job market. These tests measure your ability to think critically, problem solve and can be an indicator of how well you work with others. Psychometric testing has become increasingly popular in recruitment for multinational companies. This seminar will describe the tests themselves and how best to prepare for them.
Interviewing Techniques, Wednesday 25th April, 6:00pm, ABH 216
The interview is your final hurdle and your opportunity to shine, so you have to make sure you’re prepared! This seminar will review techniques to help you present yourself well and get your foot in the door with the employer of your choice.
