On-Campus Programming

Throughout the academic year, Residence Life sponsors educational fairs and community building activities that support students’ classroom experiences at Richmond. These activities are responsive to students’ interests and have recently included:

Carnival

Students celebrate Carnival in the common room

Residents’ Night: An evening event for new and returning residents hosted in the common room. Its aim is to allow students to get to know one another in a fun, friendly environment.

Sexual Health Week: A week-long event including guest speakers from community organizations, informational notice boards, a film festival and various other awareness-raising activities.

Superbowl Party: A late night of televised American football to support your team of choice.

Earth Day Celebration: A day to celebrate Mother Earth with nature walks, planting a garden, a fun run and guest lecturers.

Study Break: A chance to relax if only for a minute or two with a healthy snack in preparation for exams.

American Independence Day Celebration: Hamburgers, hotdogs, apple pie and American football. You will find them all at our July 4th outdoor event.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week: A week-long event including guest speakers from community organizations, informational notice boards, a film festival and various other awareness-raising activities.

Thanksgiving Celebration: turkey, stuffing and mince tarts plus loads of Richmond fun! Everyone has a great time at our Thanksgiving feast and film festival.

World AIDS Day: A week of information and awareness campaigns about AIDS and HIV which include red ribbon sales, a film festival, decoration of the tree of life and much more.

Pumpkin Carving: As part of the Hill’s Halloween celebration, residents get together every October and carve pumpkins to line the steps of the main building.

St. Patrick's Day

Students celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Valentine’s Flower Sales for Charity: Both to celebrate the day and to give back to the community, students can purchase flowers with a message to their friends, roommates and favourite people at Richmond. Proceeds go to an area charity chosen by students.

Health Week: This is students’ opportunity to become familiar with the NHS and health care facilities available to them while they are in the UK. Topics include: physical well being, mental health, sexual health, nutrition and stress management.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration: Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day! Students gather in the common room to learn Irish dancing and take part in celebrating Ireland's most popular holiday.

World Cup Football Tournament: So we're not all Ronaldinho, but you are guaranteed a great afternoon of 5-a-side football when Richmond students compete for the coveted title of World Cup Champion!

Personal Development Seminars: University can be a life changing experience and having the skills to cope can is essential. Throughout the year, Residence Life offers seminars to help students come to grips with the changes they are experiencing. Recent seminars have included "Building Healthy Relationships", "Stress Management" and "Tolerance and Community".
