Mr. Mark Ellis
Coaching Director
The coaching staff will be under the direction of Mark Ellis, a Professional Soccer player for Bradford City for over 14 years who will oversee the player development program at RIASA. Mark has also worked at several UK professional clubs as a coach, Leeds Utd, Huddersfield Town FC. He has also coaching stints in South Africa and the USA. His coaching qualifications are up to the UEFA "A" licensed standard. Mark's professional contacts span the world and he will seek players from aboard to play at RIASA.
Mark will be responsible for not only developing players to move to the next level but will oversee the relationship that RIASA has developed with professional clubs not only in the UK but in the European leagues too.
The qualification for an RIASA coaching staff member is a UEFA "A" license. There will be two full time UEFA "A" licensed coaches working with Mark in addition to a GK coach
John Hendrie
Professional Academy Coordinator, Player Representative & Consultant
John played at the Premiership level with Newcastle United, Middelsborough, Leeds United, Barnsley and Bradford City FC. John has also been the manager of Barnsley FC when they were in the English Premiership.; John also holds the UEFA "A" Coaching License.
John has numerous contacts within the professional game and will be responsible for coordinating the games for RIASA with professional youth team academies. John will represent all RIASA players who are looking to play at any professional level. He has already managed and consulted with several top premiership players including Robbie Savage, Leicester City FC, Birmingham City FC and Welsh International, Mark Schwarzer Australian International and Fulham Goalkeeper, Stuart Mc Call Bradford City FC Manager, Everton and Scotland International, and Dean Windass, Bradford City & Hull City FC.
John's son is presently on the books at Manchester United Professional Youth Academy.
Brian Haley PhD.
International Director
Brian is a professional college coach in the US since 1989 after moving to the US from England. He holds a Doctorate in Education as well as the Premier Coaching license from the National Soccer Coaching Association of America. Brian will oversee the recruitment of the student athlete to the RIASA program in the UK. He will work closely with both the CEO of RIASA and the Football Director to ensure the student experience is one of quality and provides the right opportunity for players and meets their expectations. Brian played for a number of semi professional teams in the UK.
Dale Friesen
Technology Director
Founder and CEO of Scouting Solutions
Dale will oversee the Marketing, Web design and total on line athlete development program. IASA will be using the world's first interactive technology system for coaching education and player development. This system is cutting edge and presently being used by several MLS academy and professional teams as well as top premier select teams in North America. Coaching Staff
In addition to the athletic directors, Mark Ellis and John Hendrie, who will be working directly with RIASA players, Dean Windass, Former Hull City and Bradford City player and Di Jones, England U21 Scout, will also be providing an advisory role at the RIASA Academy.
Dean Windass
Dean Windass, scores the winning goal at Wembley to take Hull City from the Championship to the Premier league. This strike is estimated to be worth 60 million pounds for Hull City FC.

Dean will work closely with Mark Ellis, the coaching director, to assess players and advise players on what it takes to make the grade and be able offer up and coming players advice on what they need to go to the next level.
Dai Jones
Dai Jones is the present England U21 scout. As an International Scout he knows how to spot talent and help develop players. Di has worked with Crystal Place and Wimbledon when they were both in the Premier League and Champion league respectively. He has worked with players at all levels from college aged to the professional levels. Di will be on hand to provide advise for young players and use contacts to help RIASA players within the club networks.
Gary Batley
Gary Batley will be part of the coaching staff with Mark Ellis and John Hendrie. Gary holds the UEFA "A" license and is a coach educator up to level 3 UEFA B. Gary will help with coaching the RIASA teams and help the RIASA players progress up the coaching ladder as they enroll and undertake their UEFA coaching license, which is part of the RIASA curriculum. Gary has also worked at Leeds United football academy and runs his own football school in Mexico City where he trains future coaches.

Paul Lloyd

Director of RIASA
After graduating from Leeds University with a BA in Communication Arts and Public Media, Paul worked for a time as a manager within the NHS, before retraining as a teacher in adult education, teaching a range of social studies subjects. He gained his MA in Education from Southampton and taught adult and further education teacher training courses for several years, developing an interest in leadership development.
He has also worked with a national youth organisation in the development and delivery of a youth leadership development programme, and has taught many regional trainers to continue the development of the initiative.
Moving into Higher Education ten years ago, Paul has taken charge of two large student unions as General Manager, which included the management of both welfare and business operations and leading the transition of both organisations to registered charities. He has continued his interest in leadership development through work with the elected sabbatical officers and he is currently writing his doctoral thesis for Leeds University, examining the training and development of student union leaders.

Tessa Cleary is the U.S. Admissions Manager for Richmond’s U.S. Admissions Office in Boston, Massachusetts.
She believes that Richmond’s objective to provide each student with a global education is essential to one’s success in today’s market. The knowledge one gains at Richmond will no doubt serve as a valuable asset in our global economy.
She grew up in southeastern Massachusetts and attended college in New Hampshire, where she earned a degree in English with a concentration in Journalism.
Prior to taking this position at Richmond in the summer of 2008, she worked as a reporter for four years, covering local government, crime, courts and schools. She also wrote in- depth enterprise pieces and features, produced video content and took photographs.
Tessa loves to travel and hopes for the opportunity to see more of the world.
Colin Howley
Assistant Professor Richmond International Academic Soccer Academy
With an interdisciplinary academic background in American literature and cultural studies, Dr Howley has taught a wide variety of courses at several British Universities including the University of Sheffield and John Moores University.
Dr Howley’s research interests focus upon the area of modern and contemporary African American cultural production – with a particular reference to sport, music and masculinities. He has published articles on Spike Lee and Hip-hop culture and was recently a specialist curator for a season of jazz films at the Showroom cinema in Sheffield. Currently, Dr Howley is preparing research from his doctoral thesis ‘Of Hoop and Men: Blackness, Masculinity and Basketball in the Writings of John Edgar Wideman’ for monograph application. He is also pursuing further research into the relationship between Modernism and contemporary African American fiction.
Dr Howley has presented research papers at national and international conferences including British Association of American Studies (BAAS) and the Sports Literature Association (SLA). He also holds a three-year Honorary Research Fellowship at the University of Sheffield.

Lucia Morawska

Adjunct Professor Richmond International Academic Soccer Academy
Educated in the UK and Poland, I specialise in Modern European History and Anthropology. My PhD dissertation: : Lelov: cultural memory and a Jewish town. Investigating the identity of an ultra-orthodox society is due for submission shortly. It is planned to be published also as a non-academic work to become available to the wider public.
I also have a long-standing interest in the philosophy and critical thinking.
Previously, I researched in the Philosophy of Dialogue and Jewish Mysticism which resulted in my Masters Dissertation: Mystical and kabbalistic ideas in Martin Bubber’s Philosophy of Dialogue. Role of the Other and its linguistic creation. My BA degree has trained me to cover Social Sciences and Humanities and my subject specialism is History and History of Philosophy and Ethics with an elective in Cultural History. I have also studied Politics and Journalism in addition to these core subjects.
I taught at University of Huddersfield before coming to Richmond to lecture in World Cultural History and Introduction to Philosophy at IASA in Leeds.
Dr. Hirantha Seekkuwa Wasam

Adjunct Associate Professor in Economics

Dr. Hirantha joined RIASA in January 2011. He is a B.Com graduate from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics and Masters Degree in International Economics from the University of Essex in England and a Ph.D. in Economics from Nagoya University in Japan. He was a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka and functioned as the Head of Department of Commerce from 2005 – 2009 and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce in 2008. He worked as MBA Programme Coordinator of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from 1998 – 2000. Dr. Hirantha has extensive teaching and administrative experience at University level and he served in the University Senate and Council of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He has taught at the Nottingham School of Economics, Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) in UAE and MBA, B.Sc. in Business Studies and B.Com Degree programmes of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He is currently a Research Scholar attached to the Centre for Regional Economic Development and International Trade (CREDIT) in the School of Economics of the University of Nottingham.
He is a recipient of Commonwealth Scholarship in UK and Mombuguk-sho Scholarship in Japan. He was a post-doctoral fellow of AIEJ Japan, and also a recipient of Research in Asia grant from University of Nottingham in 2004. Dr. Hirantha is a trained Quality Assurance Subject Reviewer of the Sri Lanka Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council for Higher Education.
He specialized in international trade and finance, managerial economics and business strategy, and international business. His research largely focuses on international trade, regional integration and poverty alleviation in South Asian region. He has presented his work at European Trade Study Group (ETSG) conference, Midwest Economic Theory and Trade conference in USA, UNU-WIDER conference, Leverhulme Centre for Research on Globalization and Economic Policy (GEP) seminar in UK and International Conference on Business Management (ICBM) in Sri Lanka. Dr. Hirantha’s trade policy research on South Asian regional integration has been cited and used as a background paper by international scholars and recognized at international research forums and conferences: MIT International Review Spring 2008, CPD Occasional paper 11/2009, CSGR working paper no 218/07, German Development Institute’s discussion paper 11/2009, Commonwealth Secretariat, Asia-Pacific Trade Economists’ conference ESCAP, State Bank of Pakistan Annual Report 2005, as SBP working paper series 23/2008.
He served in the Board of Directors of the State Printing Corporation in Sri Lanka from 2003-2004 and had been a consultant to several Sri Lankan Business establishments.

Ernest Ampadu

ERNEST AMPADU holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, a Research Master’s Degree in International and Comparative Education from Stockholm University, Sweden and MA in Adult Learning from Linkoping University, Sweden. Student Leadership Team


Christian Eissele - Student Ambassador
Born and raised in Orlando, Florida, Christian spent a year at the University of Central Florida in his hometown before coming to Richmond. His favorite subject is Math and he is majoring in International Business. His life goals are to play professional football, get a job in management in New York City or for the Walt Disney World company, and write his own book.
The student ambassador works with the Director of RIASA and the staff of Leeds Metropolitan University to provide a RIASA student voice in all campus student activities. By liaising with the Leeds Metropolitan University students’ union, and the elected officers of the Student Union at Richmond the American International University in London, their role is to improve the RIASA community by helping in the planning of student body events.
The student ambassador is also the student link with visiting groups and individuals.

Tyson Newell - Peer Mentor
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Tyson grew up in Turner Valley, Alberta. He attended Oilfields High School, graduating in 2010, before applying to Richmond, the American International University in London.
He has a fervour for economics and mathematics, as well as English as written expression.
The position of Peer Mentor is a part-time, live-in position. Peer Mentors are responsible for leadership of the student group in all aspects of studies and academic habits, and for developing a learning environment which is positive and productive.
The Peer Mentor works with the students and staff of RIASA, supporting the other students in a fair and constructive manner.

Nick Pastuhov - Resident Assistant
Nick was born and raised in the Bay Area of California.. His extracurricular hobbies include football, cooking, clothing and cars. Inside the classroom he enjoys Science and English. In the future he hopes to become a professional footballer and a successful businessman.
The position of Resident Advisor is a part-time, live-in position. Resident Advisors are responsible for assisting with the maintenance of a safe and healthy living environment, and the development of a positive, productive living community.
The Resident Advisor works with the students and staff of RIASA, and with the accommodation and security staff at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Devan Taylor - Retention and Marketing Assistant.
Devan grew up in Reno, Nevada where he learned the trades of his kin in hopes of preparing him for the world. After his freshman year Devan decided to travel abroad and settled in at an academy in Liege, Belgium. Once mastering the french language and indulging on all the waffles he could muster, he found his way to England where he assisted in the pioneering of history in the birth of Richmond's International Academic & Soccer Academy. One year later, he has returned to continue on in the developmental journey of RIASA.
The retention and marketing assistant provides administrative support in marketing the program with the Director of RIASA, and the Director of Admissions and Enrolment. By helping to maintain an information flow through outlets such as the website, Facebook, Twitter etc. and assisting in the implementation of marketing plans the retention and marketing assistant contributes to the promotion of the program.

Karl Martens - Soccer Liaison Assistant for RIASA.
Karl comes from Winnipeg, Canada, but is also German, making him a dual citizen. He has played at a pro level with a club called A.F.C Tubize before he started his studies and hopes that his experience can help further the program.
The soccer liaison assistant aims to maintain a steady flow of information between the coaches and the students, by working with the Coaching Director and the Program Director in the planning of soccer events and ensuring that the students are kept well informed about training, soccer games and related activities.
