Search Richmond University:

The Internet

As a demonstration of how inter-related many of these internet search tools are, you might have a look at: the Search Engine Chart from Ihelpyou, Inc. and/or the Search Engine Relationship chart from Bruce Clay Inc.

It is also useful to think about how search engines work: what are they doing when they are "searching the Internet"?

What results can you expect from them? How Internet Search Engines Work

The Academic Internet - If looking for quality Internet sites for a research paper, try the resources listed on this page as a starting point.

Searching the Internet - Search engines, directories, invisible web searches and live "ask an expert" tools.

Meta Search Engines - Meta search engines search across several search engines at once and produce a list of hits from each one. Very comprehensive, but can be overwhelming.

Regional Search Engines - Use these when you want to search for sites within a particular country or particular region, instead of searching the whole of the Internet.
