Economic Community of West African States - The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional group of fifteen countries, founded in 1975 whose mission is to promote economic integration in "all fields of economic activity, particularly industry, transport, telecommunications, energy, agriculture, natural resources, commerce, monetary and financial questions, social and cultural matters".
New Partnership for Africa’s Development - "NEPAD is designed to address the current challenges facing the African continent. Issues such as the escalating poverty levels, underdevelopment and the continued marginalisation of Africa needed a new radical intervention, spearheaded by African leaders, to develop a new vision that would guarantee Africa’s renewal".
Southern African Development Community - "The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has been in existence since 1980, when it was formed as a loose alliance of nine majority-ruled States in Southern Africa known as the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC), with the main aim of coordinating development projects in order to lessen economic dependence on the then apartheid South Africa. The founding Member States are: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe".

Hopes on the Horizon : Africa in the 1990s - Chronicles the rise of pro-democracy movements during the 1990s in six African countries (Benin, Nigeria, Rwanda, Morocco, Mozambique and South Africa). Premiering on PBS February 16, 2001 this two-hour documentary (narrated by Derrick N. Ashong, with original music by Tunde Jegede), tells the stories of the men and women who initiated, witnessed, and participated in these tumultuous changes.
