In search of myths and heroes - PBS program with Michael Wood on a epic journey following in the path of the Queen of Sheba, searching for Shangri-La in Tibet, untangling the tales of King Arthur in Celtic Britain and tracing the trek of Jason who sought the Golden Fleece.

Internet Ancient History Sourcebook - The Internet Ancient History Sourcebook is a companion to the Internet Medieval Sourcebook and the Internet Modern History Sourcebook. Since there are already ample online repositories of texts for the Ancient and the Modern periods, the goal here is to provide and organize texts for use in classroom situations. Links to the larger online collections are provided for those who want to explore further.

BBC Ancient History: Egyptians - Explore ancient history through feature articles, 3-d virtual tours, games and animations

Cleopatra : a multimedia guide to the Ancient World - From the Art Institute of Chicago, this website focuses on three cultures of the ancient Mediterranean: Italy, Egypt and Greece, and gives users views of 18 artefacts with close-ups and related stories.

Egypt State Information Service - A comprehensive site for information on Egypt, with sections on Ancient Egypt (Pharaonic and Ptolemic), history, culture, the arts etc. The link to ancient Egypt includes information on the pyramids, the Sphinx and the life of the ancient Egyptians.

Tomb of Tutankhamen - A website version of the illustrated article from the National Geographic of February 1923 detailing the opening and entering of the tomb of Tutankhamen.

Tutankhamen: King TutOne - Introductory website on ancient Egypt with articles on the pharoahs, queens, mummies, King Tut and the pyramids.

BBC Ancient History: Greeks - Explore ancient history through feature articles, 3-d virtual tours, games and animations.

BBC Ancient History: Romans - Explore ancient history through feature articles, 3-d virtual tours, games and animations.

Perseus Project - A growing database containing a vast array of information including texts, lexicons, images and maps on ancient Greece.

Theban Mapping Project - An interactive atlas of the Valley of the Kings, with articles, images, timeline and bibliography.

ABZU : Ancient Near East - "A guide to the rapidly increasing, and widely distributed data relevant to the study and public presentation of the Ancient Near East via the Internet".

Arab-Islamic History - Some pre-history of the Arab people, but mainly history after conversion to Islam.

Musée Achéménide - Online museum covering the worlds of Persia, Babylonia and the Egyptian empire.

Petra: Lost city of stone - exhibition from the American Museum of Natural History - An illustrated history from the founding of Petra by the Nabataeans up until its annexation by the Romans.

Asia

Taj Mahal Virtual Tour - "This virtual tour, provided by the Armchair Travel Company, is an enlightening way to find out more about this building and its history". To access more than the preview you need to sign up and pay a membership fee of $3.00.

Ancient America

Dumbarton Oaks Museum - Access texts from the Dumbarton Oaks Center on the Olmec, Maya architecture, Moche iconography and native traditions, amongst others.

Ancient Mexico - An educational resource for the study of the art and cultures of pre-Columbian MesoAmerica. View a map and timeline or investigate the Gods, documents and a history of the conquest. The site is also developing companion sites for: Ancient Chile and Ancient Peru (Inca, Nazca)

Exploring the Early Americas - Online exhibition of artifacts from the Jay I. Kislak Collection at the Library of Congress realting to Florida, the Caribbean and Mesoamerica. The exhibition is organized into three sections: Pre-contact America, Explorations and Encounters, and Aftermath of the Encounter, and comprises an introductory essay to accompany the artifacts and documents.

John Pohl's Mesoamerica on FAMSI - John Pohl is an eminent authority on American Indian civilizations and has directed numerous archaeological excavations and surveys in Canada, the United States, México, and Central America as well as Europe. This section is part of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies Inc. (FAMSI) website which covers a wide range of resources.

Mesoweb - Read about the latest finds at Maya sites throughout Mesoamerica, and take a video tour of some of the ancient cities.

Ancient Observatories - Exhibitions on Chaco Canyon (New Mexico) and Chichen Itzla (the ancient Mayan city) with information on seasons, mythology and the Mayan calendar.
