The Factbook was created as an annual summary and update to the encyclopedic Joint Army & Navy Intelligence Studies. It gives detailed information on the geography, people, government, economy, communications, transport and military of 250 countries or regions of the world, and some information on transnational issues pertaining to each country.

Library of Congress Country Studies
Website for the on-line versions of books previously published in hard copy by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Army. Because the original intent of the Series' sponsor was to focus primarily on lesser known areas of the world or regions in which U.S. forces might be deployed, the series is not all-inclusive. At present, 101 countries and regions are covered. Notable omissions include Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and other Western nations.

STRATFOR (Strategic Forecasting)
STRATFOR is one of the world's leading private providers of global intelligence, analysis, and forecasting on geopolitical, security, and economic affairs including confidential consulting on existing or potential competitive and security threats that global companies and/or nation-states may face in specific markets or regions. Much of the content is free, though some articles are for subscribers only.
US Agency for International Development
USAID has been the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. Use the Country Locator to find out about work and policy in particular countries.
US Department of State : Country Commercial Guides
Country Commercial Guides (CCG's) are prepared annually by U.S. embassies with the assistance of several U.S. government agencies. These reports present a comprehensive look at countries' commercial environments, using economic, political and market analysis. The CCG's were established by recommendation of the Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee (TPCC), a multi-agency task force, to consolidate various reporting documents prepared for the U.S. business community. They are available for the years 1996-2001.

Much useful financial information, especially on countries in the Developing World and the former Eastern Bloc. You can search by country, by topic or by project. Also offers country data profiles covering people, the environment, the economy, technology and infrastructure and trade and finance.
Provides current population figures for the country and the towns and cities within each country. Also includes images of national flags, a clickable map, and a section of related links.
