Reservations
When you are looking for an item in the OPAC you may find that it is located at a different campus to the one where you are. You can then request that the item be transferred between campuses by placing a reservation on the item(s) in question.
With the catalogue record for the item on the computer screen go to the button labelled request.
You will then be prompted to enter your barcode and your surname.
- Barcode: your barcode is the 10 digit number at the bottom of your University ID card.
- Last Name: please enter your surname or family name.
- Click on the Log-in button.
In doing this you are personally logging on to the Library Management System and any further transactions will be carried out in your name until you log off. This means, for example, that you can place recalls or reservations for several items without having to enter your barcode and surname each time.
The next screen asks you to "Choose one below". This is where you need to be clear on whether you want a Recall or a Reservation.
- Highlight Reservation and click OK.
There are now two more pieces of information required before you submit your request.
- First of all you are asked to enter your barcode again. This is a simple security measure in case you failed to log-off and someone else is trying to use your account.
- Secondly you are asked to choose a "Pick-up at" location.
You can choose either the Richmond or Kensington circulation desk.
- Now click on the Submit Request button, and your reservation should be placed.
Library staff print out a daily report of all such reservations and look for them either last thing at night or first thing in the morning and when found they are sent to the appropriate campus as indicated on your request form.
Usually (though this cannot be guaranteed) books are available in Kensington mid-morning, and books are available in Richmond mid-afternoon throughout the week (but not at week-ends).
When the book is available you will be notified by e-mail that the book is waiting for you to collect. You should therefore make a habit of checking your University e-mail account on a regular basis. Alternatively you can check your own Patron details on the OPAC itself.
- Once you have finished with your reservations please ensure that you log-off the system.
