Recalls
When you are looking for an item in the OPAC you may find that it is out on loan to someone else. The Voyager status will say "Charged" or "Overdue" and will give a due date for the item. You may then place a Recall on this item. This will prevent the borrower from renewing the item, and will enable it to be held for you when the item is returned.
Conversely, when you have an item on loan that has been recalled you will not be able to renew it.
With the catalogue record for the item on the computer screen go to the button labelled request.
You will then be prompted to enter your barcode and your surname.
- Barcode: your barcode is the 10-digit number at the bottom of your University ID card.
- Last Name: please enter your surname or family name.
- Click on the Log-in button.
In doing this you are personally logging on to the Library Management System and any further transactions will be carried out in your name until you log-off. This means, for example, that you can place recalls or reservations for several items without having to enter your barcode and surname each time.
The next screen asks you to "Choose one below". This is where you need to be clear on whether you want a Recall or a Reservation.
- Highlight Recall and click OK.
There are now two more pieces of information required before you submit your request.
- First of all you are asked to enter your barcode again. This is a simple security measure in case you failed to log-off and someone else is trying to use your account.
- Secondly you are asked to choose a "Pick-up at" location.
You can choose either the Richmond or Kensington circulation desk.
- Now click on the Submit Request button, and your recall should be placed.
When the book is returned to the Library you will be notified by e-mail that the book is waiting for you to collect it. You should therefore make a habit of checking your University e-mail account on a regular basis. Alternatively you can check your own Patron details on the OPAC itself.
- Once you have finished with your recalls please ensure that you log-off the system
