Telephone: (617) 450-5617 Fax: (617) 450 5601
Nick Atkinson is Richmond’s Director of U.S. Admissions based in Boston, Massachusetts. Richmond’s mission of educating a multi-cultural student body in the liberal arts tradition is one that strongly appeals to him.
His formative years were spent in several different countries around the world, including Argentina, Belize, Spain and the UK, and he grew up surrounded by people from different cultures. His university years at King’s College, London and his Bachelor’s degree in German and Spanish Literature imbued him with an appreciation for Britain’s capital city and the value of a non-vocational university education.
Nick’s professional path over more the last two decades has strengthened his belief in the importance of an undergraduate degree that teaches students to think broadly and prepares them to develop a platform from which a successful career can be launched. The Richmond degree, which offers an American education in a British setting, provides an unrivalled opportunity to reap the benefits of a liberal arts education in one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities.
Prior to coming to Richmond in October 2008, Nick spent more than 20 years working for the American Council for International Studies (ACIS), where he achieved the position of company Vice President. His background in Sales and Sales Management and his wide experience in the field of educational travel, involving tours of duty in London, Paris, Atlanta and Boston, provided him with excellent preparation for his role as Richmond’s Director of U.S. Admissions. One of Nick’s favorite aspects of the job is the opportunity it allows him to counsel prospective students and their families on life in Richmond’s unique, multicultural environment.
Nick is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC). He has dual British and U.S. citizenship. He speaks French, German and Spanish, and dabbles in Mandarin.
