Richmond is a particularly interesting university in which to study Humanities, Social Sciences & Communications . Virtually every student is from a different country, often far from home and wondering - perhaps for the first time - what it really means to be alive in an era of accelerating globalization.

When our students arrive in London, they have many questions which relate to issues of identity, culture, language, religion, society, citizenship, history and consumption - all of which are addressed in the study of Communications and in all of the undergraduate programs in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Our students often comment on the ready availability of our faculty. Average classes at Richmond are both much smaller and much more ethnically diverse than at most other universities. With a typical Junior or Senior level class size of between ten to twenty students we emphasize individual attention, small group work, student participation, personal research paper writing and seminar-style discussion rather than large, impersonal lectures and 'multiple-choice' styles of testing.

Our aim as faculty is to ensure that, by the time you graduate, you have a really solid theoretical and methodological grounding in your chosen course of study, ending with a substantial piece of individual research. Our success here is one of the main reasons why Richmond’s Communications, Humanities and Social Science alumni have gained entry to leading graduate schools all over the world.

We invite you to join us and to add your own creativity to the exploration of these rich and diverse disciplines.

BS in Mathematics and Computing

Yilkal completed a Richmond internship with Analysis International. After graduating, the company, which specializes in computer simulation and modelling, hired him as a software engineer. Yilkal has returned to work in the IT Department as a programmer and software developer. "I was attracted to Richmond because it's an American university in the UK, a good combination and also because of Richmond's computer course. I was impressed that they were using up-to-date computer programs that no one else was teaching in London. At Richmond, I combined computer courses with social sciences and trained in interpersonal skills. I was able to adapt to new experiences and made good friends from all over the world."
