About our Scholarships Programme

Scholarships, bursaries and grants are awarded to undergraduate students based on a range of factors including current and future academic achievement and need. Students are required to complete an application to be considered for a university scholarship or bursary. Information about how to apply for one of our scholarships, bursaries or grants will be sent to you with your offer.

Prospective students may apply as soon as they have received the offer of a place. Scholarships, bursaries and grants are normally awarded for the duration of the programme, subject to maintaining the required academic standard and contributing to University life.

Which scholarships am I eligible for?

Home/EU Students

If you are an EU citizen and have been ordinarily resident in the EEA for the previous three years then you are entitled to apply for Home/EU Scholarships & pay Home/EU fees.

International Students

If you are a citizen of a non-EU country or are an EU citizen but have been ordinarily resident outside the EEA for the previous three years then you are entitled to apply for International Scholarships & pay International fees.

North American Students

If you are a resident in the USA, or in a country from Panama north to Canada (including the Caribbean), then you are entitled to pay USD $ fees, and apply for North American Scholarships as listed below.

Alumni

If you are a alumni or related to an alumni of the University then you are eligible for our Alumni Scholarships, you will however pay tuition based on your domicile as above.

Home/EU Scholarships

Chancellor’s Scholarship for Prior Academic Achievement

Who is eligible? Students who first enter the University having achieved at least ABB (320 UCAS Points) or a University-deemed equivalent in overseas or other qualifications.

About the Scholarship: A £3,000 fee waiver for Fall 2016/Spring 2017 for each full time year of the undergraduate programme, open to all new students who have achieved on entry to the University, at least ABB (320 UCAS Points) or equivalent as defined by Richmond University. Where GCEs are included in this calculation, the applicant must have achieved at least 320 points from 3 distinct A level subjects.

Continuation of fee waiver after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA 2.5 for the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The fee waiver is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study throughout that academic year. Normally, the Chancellor’s Scholarship for Prior Academic Achievement may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial support or scholarship from the University.


Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for Prior Academic Achievement

Who is eligible? Students who first enter the University having achieved a minimum of 300 UCAS tariff points * or a University-deemed equivalent in overseas or other qualifications.

About the Scholarship: A £2,000 fee waiver for Fall 2016/Spring 2017, who have achieved, on entry to the University, at least 300 UCAS tariff points* or a University-deemed equivalent in overseas or other qualifications. Where GCEs are included in this calculation, the applicant must have achieved at least 300 points from 3 distinct A level subjects.

Continuation of fee waiver after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA 2.5 for the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The fee waiver is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study throughout that academic year. Normally, the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for Prior Academic Achievement may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial support or scholarship from the University.

Provost’s Richmond & Kensington Access Bursary

Who can apply? Students who are normally resident in the boroughs of Richmond upon Thames or Kensington and Chelsea.

About the Bursary: A £1,500 fee waiver for Fall 16 and Spring 17 entrants for each full time year of the undergraduate programme, open to all students who are normally resident in the boroughs of Richmond upon Thames or Kensington and Chelsea and can demonstrate a household income of £45,000 or less.

Continuation of fee waiver after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5 for the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The fee waiver is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study and in receipt of a Maintenance Grant from Student Finance England throughout that academic year. Normally, the Provost’s Richmond & Kensington Access Bursary may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial support or scholarship from the University.

Deadline for bursary applications is 31st August 2016 for Fall 2016 entry


Richmond Bursary

Who can apply? Students who enter the university having achieved at least 240 UCAS points or equivalent (as defined by Richmond University) plus can demonstrate an annual household income of less than £45,000 (or the equivalent in your country of residence as defined by Richmond University). Where GCEs are included in this calculation, the applicant must have achieved at least 240 points from 3 distinct A Level subjects.
About the Scholarship: A £1,000 fee waiver for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 entrants for each full time year of the undergraduate programme.

Continuation of fee waiver after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5 for the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The fee waiver is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study. Normally, the Richmond Bursary may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial support or scholarship from the University.

Deadline for bursary applications is 31st August 2016 for Fall 2016 entry 


UK Armed Forces Bursary

£2,000 fee waiver for Fall 2016/Spring 2017 entrants each full time year of the undergraduate programme. Open to all students who are current or former members of the UK armed forces, their spouses or dependants and apply for the Bursary.

Continuation of fee waiver after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA 2.5 for the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The fee waiver is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study throughout that academic year. Normally, the UK Armed Forces Bursary may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial support or scholarship from the University.

Deadline for bursary applications is 31st August 2016 for Fall 2016 entry


Student Leadership Scholarship
A limited number of £3,000 fee waiver awards.

Who can apply? Students who can demonstrate significant contribution to school life, preferably in a leadership role and/or provide evidence of work in the local community / volunteering.
How to apply? Students must submit a scholarship application form by 1st June 2016 at the latest. Please contact the admissions office if you require a link to the online scholarship application form. Please outline why you feel you are eligible for this scholarship and the contribution you hope to make to student life at Richmond University. We will endeavour to notify all scholarship applicants about the outcome of their application. However, if you have not heard from the Scholarship Panel by the end of July 2016 then your scholarship application has not been successful.

Continuation of fee waiver after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA 2.5 for the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The fee waiver is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study throughout that academic year. International Scholarships

Scholarships & Bursaries available for International fee payers

General Scholarships

Scholarships and bursaries starting from a £2,000 fee waiver for each full time year of the undergraduate program are available. These are open to all students first entering the University in 2016, and are awarded to applicants:

  • Chancellor’s Scholarship – £3,000 for those who have achieved at least 320 UCAS tariff points or a University-deemed equivalent in overseas or other qualifications. Where GCEs are included in this calculation, the applicant must have achieved at least 320 points from 3 distinct A level subjects;
  • Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship – £2,000 for those who have achieved at least 300 UCAS tariff points or a University-deemed equivalent in oversees of other qualifications. Normally, a General Scholarship/Bursary may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial support or scholarship from the University.

North American Scholarships

Scholarships & Grants available for US $ fee payers

Richmond US $ scholarship awards are usually available only to fulltime, degree-seeking students at Richmond

Richmond GI Bill Grant

Who can apply? Student must be eligible for education or training benefits from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or a dependent of someone eligible.

About the Grant: A waiver of $20,000 for Fall 16 entrants of the full US undergraduate fee for each full time year that the undergraduate programme is completed. Continuation of the fee waiver after the first year is completed is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA 2.5 for the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The fee waiver is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study throughout that academic year. Normally, the Richmond GI Bill Grant may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial or scholarship/bursary support from the University.


The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

The $22,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is available to US Transfer students who are outstanding members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.  This award is instead of, not in addition to, any other merit scholarship from Richmond.  This Scholarship is not usually combinable with any other Richmond Scholarships or Grants. More information can be obtained by contacting the US Office of Admissions at usadmissions@richmond.ac.uk.


Presidential Scholarship

Who may be eligible? Students who are new entrants to the University, paying the full Richmond US tuition fee. To qualify students must achieve a final cumulative High School Certificate of 3.6 – 4.0 GPA. However, applications will be considered on a predicted GPA, subject to verification of final results meeting the aforementioned criteria. No separate scholarship application is necessary for this award.  Scholarship eligibility will be determined based on the students’ application for admission and supporting documents.

Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 Tuition Cost Entry Requirements Award
US Fee Paying Students $38,000 3.6 – 4.0 GPA $20,000

About the Scholarship: The Presidential Scholarship is merit based. To qualify students must be able to show either a predicted grade or final High School Certificate of 3.6 – 4.0 GPA. Continuation of the Presidential Scholarship after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4 from the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The Presidential Scholarship is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study throughout that academic year. Normally, the Presidential Scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial support or scholarship from the University.

Dean’s Scholarship

Who may be eligible? Students who are new entrants to the University, paying the full Richmond US tuition fee. To qualify, students must achieve a final cumulative High School Certificate of 3.0 – 3.59 GPA. However, applications will be considered on predicted GPA, subject to verification of final results meeting the aforementioned criteria. No separate scholarship application is necessary for this award.  Scholarship eligibility will be determined based on the students’ application for admission and supporting documents.

Fall 2016/Spring 2017 Tuition Cost Entry Requirements Award
US Fee Paying Students $38,000 3.0 – 3.59 GPA $15,000

The Dean’s Scholarship is merit based. To qualify students must be able to show either a predicted grade or final High School Certificate of 3.0 – 3.59 GPA. Continuation of the Dean’s Scholarship after the first year is conditional on the student achieving a cumulative 3.0 – 3.59 GPA from the previous academic year, remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life. The Dean’s Scholarship is cancelled for a given academic year if the student is not actively enrolled for full time study throughout that academic year.

Student Support Grant

Who can apply? Students who are new entrants to the University, paying the Richmond US tuition fee, may be considered for needs-based grants. Eligibility is determined on a case by case basis, normally via FAFSA information, and support is conditional on also taking University housing.

Alumni Scholarships

The Alumni Bursary

Open to all eligible students regarless of fee structure.

Home/EU fee payers – Bursary of £1,000 per academic year towards tuition

International fee payers – Bursary of £2,000 per academic year towards tuition

US $ fee payers – Bursary of $3,000 per academic year towards tuition

Those who are eligible to apply are:

  • Alumnus/alumna who return to the University to complete a Undergraduate or Postgraduate programme
  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate students who are the partners, dependents or siblings of a Richmond alumnus/alumna

Where an alumnus/alumna is defined as a former student of the University who successfully completed their programme of study as intended (BA, Postgraduate or visiting/study abroad).

Once awarded, continuation of the Scholarship into the second and subsequent semesters of study will be dependent on the Scholar:

  1. progressing normally on the programme, maintaining a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5 (Undergraduate) or 3.0 (Postgraduate); and
  2. remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life.

The fee waiver is cancelled in total if the student does not remain actively enrolled throughout the normal duration of the programme. Normally, the Richmond Alumni Scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial or scholarship support from the University.
