Postgraduate Scholarships & Financial Assistance

About our Scholarships Programme

Scholarships, bursaries and grants are awarded to postgraduate students based on a range of factors including current and future academic achievement and need. Students are required to complete an application to be considered for a university scholarship or bursary.

Prospective students may apply as soon as they have received the offer of a place. Scholarships, bursaries and grants are normally awarded for the duration of the programme, subject to maintaining the required academic standard and contributing to University life.

Which scholarships am I eligible for?

Home/EU Students
If you are an EU citizen and have been ordinarily resident in the EEA for the previous three years then you are eligible to Home/EU Scholarships & pay Home/EU fees.

International Students (including North America)
If you are a citizen of a non-EU country or are an EU citizen but have been ordinarily resident outside the EEA for the previous three years then you are eligible to International Scholarships & pay International fees.

Alumni
If you are a alumni or related to an alumni of the University then you are eligible for our Alumni Scholarships, you will however pay tuition based on your domicile as above.

Home/EU Scholarships

Postgraduate Scholarship

Applicants who have a Bachelor Degree with GPA of at least 3.3/4.0 or a Bachelor (Hons) Degree with a 2:1 or above will be eligible for our Postgraduate Scholarship which is a 10% reduction in tuition fees.

If you have studied outside of the UK or USA then the equivalency will be assessed by the Admissions Office.

Once awarded, continuation of the Scholarship into the second and subsequent semesters of study will be dependent on the Scholar:

  1. progressing normally on the programme, having achieved a cumulative GPA of not less than 3.7 by the completion of the previous semester; and
  2. remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life.

The fee waiver is cancelled in total if the student does not remain actively enrolled for three successive semesters (full time programmes) or six successive semesters (part time programmes).

The Postgraduate Scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial or scholarship support from the University.

 


Financial Assistance

Tuition fees, books, a laptop computer (required), and living costs are the main items you will need to take into account in estimating the total cost of your Postgraduate Programme.

Postgraduate students fund their studies from a variety of sources such as loans, grants, and personal resources.

International Scholarships

Postgraduate Scholarship

UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT LOANS

Stafford Loans: U.S. citizens and U.S. green card holders may qualify for Stafford loans. To apply you must complete the Free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may complete this form online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. In the U.S. you can also call 1-8004FED AID to request a form. The U.S. Department of Education number for Richmond, The American International University in London is G10594.

Other Loans: There may be some private loans available to American students studying abroad. Private loans are subject to a credit check. Some Richmond students fund their studies through the http://www.salliemae.com/. We do not have a preferred lenders list and we are not currently aware of other U.S. private loan providers. You should consider terms and conditions carefully in comparison with Federal Direct Loans.

Alumni Scholarships

The Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship is valued at £1,000 per academic year towards tuition, those who are eligible to apply are:

  • Alumnus/alumna who returns to the University to complete a Undergraduate or Postgraduate programme
  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate students who are the partners, dependents or siblings of a Richmond alumnus/alumna

Where an alumnus/alumna is defined as a former student of the University who successfully completed their programme of study as intended (BA, Postgraduate or visiting/study abroad).

Once awarded, continuation of the Scholarship into the second and subsequent semesters of study will be dependent on the Scholar:

  1. progressing normally on the programme, maintaining a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5 (Undergraduate) or 3.0 (Postgraduate); and
  2. remaining in good standing and making a positive contribution to University life.

The fee waiver is cancelled in total if the student does not remain actively enrolled throughout the normal duration of the programme. Normally, the Richmond Alumni Scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other form of financial or scholarship support from the University.
